Carol was so much in love that after her married lover, Fred, walked out on her after she had offended him; she decided to risk a visit to his matrimonial home to say she was sorry. She knew of the danger and had planned to stay shielded and close but not enter his house. Getting near his house, she sent someone to call Fred. Fred was alone when the kid knocked. His heartbeat jumped at the mention of her name. But luckily his wife was not at home then. So he hurried to see if he could dismiss her just in time. As he was talking with her, his wife suddenly appeared.
“Carol… meet my wife” he said uneasily.
“Greetings, Madam!” Carol half-heartedly said as she too was shaken by the wife’s sudden appearance.
“Welcome” replied the wife standing close, wondering who Carol was.
But Fred did not know how to introduce Carol hence he kept quiet. His wife stood for a while and drifted away embarrassed but within earshot watching both of them keenly. As the atmosphere suddenly became tense, the lovebirds quietly made their tryst in a hurry.
Carol then departed. The wife then came closer to meet Fred.
“Who is she?”
“She is my friend’s cousin.”
“And that was enough reason you could not introduce her?”
“I thought I did. I’m sorry.” He lied.
“What was she doing here?”
“She came around here, saw my car and inquired if I lived here.”
“So you’ve started bringing girlfriends to your matrimonial home?”
“I never said she was my girlfriend.”
“Why did she not come to the house then?”
“Maybe she did not want you to think the way you are doing right now.”
“So what were you discussing?”
He thought quickly again and replied;
“She was from the hospital. She was short of money to buy drugs for a relation that was admitted. As she saw my car, she tried to see if I could help.” He lied once more.
“You gave her your address?”
“No, I believe she recognized my peculiar car plate number. But why all these questions? Is it wrong for someone in need to ask for help?” he asked her in a rage trying at the same time to make her look ridiculous.
With this vital diplomatic question, she got the message and had to pretend to understand. Not necessarily that she believed him, and so the matter settled itself in peace.
