When we take our bath, we go the extra mile to do a fine job. We wash from the head, sometimes we remember to shampoo for dandruff.
We scrub our face, and our shoulders until down below to our feet and between our toes. If we hazard a guess, we could say the most forgotten-to-be-washed body part should be our back or the valley of our spine because we usually don’t see behind us. That location is behind our eyes’ forward focus. This is not correct because most people wash their backs using a swivelling motioned sponge. Our body is made up of cylindrically formed parts; hence, every external area is easy to reach. For our efforts at cleanliness, we reach and clean recessed areas and junctions like armpits.

Yeah, we remember our neck, our back, and our backside as well as our fingernails. Yes, we remember to go a little inside when we wash our mouths, teeth and scrub our tongues. If you think of the navel, it is not the most unwashed part because, during bathing, water or soap water gets there even without our effort.

Sometimes we remember the ear and we unplug the wax, but only when it irritates us. And after that, is there anywhere else to clean? But the case of the ear is different. We consciously prevent water from going in there. Even the use of earbuds to remove wax is not the same thing as washing.

So let’s test our answer: From a 40-year-old clean man, a swap is taken of the external surface of his ear. It was found to be very black and dirty. So he confessed. To prevent water from getting into his ear he had never considered washing it for 40 years even though he bathes every day and de-waxes inside occasionally.

So how do you fare? When did you last wash or clean the inner ridges and folds in your ear? The truth is that you have not washed it like our 40-year-old gentleman. How about the back of your ear? Do you remember there at times?

The ear receives dust along with the signals it interprets as sound, so it needs to be washed for its soot. It is surprising that for 40 years without a bath it has not smelled. The best way to clean the ear is with the head tilted; use soft and moist cotton wool like a sponge to scrub all the hidden bends and curves in the complex city called the ear.
